Water rights
Water rights are the rights to take and use water. In Queensland the rights to the use, flow and control of water are vested in the State, and landholders hold rights such as taking water for stock and domestic use, with other rights granted through authorisations.
Water authorisations
In Queensland an activity in a water area may need an authorisation from the Government. It may be a tradable water allocation, a water licence, a water permit or a seasonal water assignment.
Water licences
In Queensland you may need a water licence to take or interfere with surface water, overland flow water or underground water.
